49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall is in stable condition after being shot in an attempted robbery in San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is in "serious but stable condition" after being shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in downtown San Francisco on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred near the corner of Geary and Grant streets, just a block from Union Square, according to a statement from the 49ers and the San Francisco Police Department.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott confirmed that the suspect, a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, has been arrested. The San Francisco Fire Department received a 911 call at 3:38 p.m. local time reporting gunfire at the scene. Police and emergency services quickly responded, transporting both Pearsall and the suspect to San Francisco General Hospital.

Chief Scott stated that there was "no indication" that Pearsall was targeted because of his status as a professional football player. The altercation between Pearsall and the suspect occurred during the robbery attempt, leading to multiple shots being fired. Scott noted that the suspect acted alone "as far as we know," and that surveillance footage from the area would be reviewed as the investigation continues.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed confirmed Pearsall’s stable condition, and Chief Scott added that Pearsall was alert enough to speak with police about the incident. The suspect, who is a juvenile, will face charging decisions early next week, according to District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

The 49ers, in a statement, expressed their support, saying their "thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family." Fellow 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. also reassured fans via social media, stating, "He's good ...Thank god."

Pearsall was selected by the 49ers with the No. 31 pick in April’s NFL Draft from the University of Florida.
