All security checkpoints in then riverine area are being gradually upgraded to solar energy and equipped with technology, according to Additional Inspector General of Punjab Police Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry.

Presiding over a meeting to review affairs related to the inspection and maintenance of the riverine checkpoint in the province, he said the construction, repair and upgrade of buildings, permanent posts, boats, vehicles and motorcycles at the checkpoints should also be ensured.

He said the riverine checkpoints of the Punjab Police played a crucial role in combating terrorists, miscreants and criminals.

The additional IG emphasised that the maintenance, inspection and administrative affairs of the riverine checkpoints were the responsibility of the district police officers who must inspect the posts every month and submit reports. He said the deputy inspector general of Punjab Highway Patrol was monitoring all related affairs, including the inspection of the riverine checkpoints.

He commended the DPO of Bhakkar for ensuring thorough inspections of the posts.
