ISLAMABAD:

Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) on Friday announced a significant gas and condensate discovery at Baloch-2 well in the exploratory zone of Sembar Formation located in Sanghar district of Sindh.

"This discovery marks the first milestone in Sinjhoro block of Sembar Formation in the Baloch development and production lease area," the exploration firm said in a statement.

Baloch-2 well was drilled on February 24, 2024 and it reached the total depth of 3,920 metres, called True Vertical Depth. "This exploration effort, made with in-house expertise and technical support from OGDC's joint venture partners, yielded promising results," it said. The well's Drill Stem Test-3 exhibited a flow rate of 6.8 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 388 barrels of condensate per day.

Sembar Formation is known for its hydrocarbon potential and is widely distributed across the Middle and Lower Indus basins.

"The discovery not only confirms the untapped potential of Sembar Formation but also opens up a new exploratory play, paving the way for further exploration of hydrocarbon reserves in Sinjhoro block," OGDC said.

The company underlined that it was proactively planning to re-enter existing shut-in wells within the area and swiftly tap the full potential of Sembar Formation to contribute to the energy security and economic growth of Pakistan.
