Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine faces international warrant in Dominican Republic for alleged assault

Tekashi 6ix9ine allegedly assaulted two producers after a confrontation involving his girlfriend, Yailin.

Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, has once again found himself in legal trouble, this time on an international scale. 

The Court of Appeals in the Judicial District of La Vega, Dominican Republic, has issued an international arrest warrant for the rapper, stemming from an alleged assault that took place in October 2023. 

The warrant was issued after Tekashi and his entourage reportedly attacked two music producers at a recording studio in La Vega.

The incident occurred in the early hours of October 15, 2023, when Tekashi, accompanied by his team, allegedly assaulted producers Nelson Alfonso Hilario Garcia and another unnamed individual. 

The altercation is said to have been triggered by a confrontation involving Tekashi's girlfriend, Yailin. According to the Public Ministry of the Dominican Republic, Hilario Garcia sustained blunt force trauma to the head and face during the attack. 

The court's statement, translated from Spanish, confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant and a guarantee of 500 thousand Dominican pesos for the accused.

Producer Diamond La Mafia, who was present during the incident, provided further details, claiming that Tekashi's jealousy over his relationship with Yailin was the catalyst for the violent encounter. 

"He grabbed both of my producers, they destroyed my studio, through no fault of their own, without knowing him," Diamond La Mafia told Diario Libre at the time. 

He also alleged that Tekashi threatened him via video call, claiming to be armed and ready to fight.

This recent warrant is just one of several legal issues that have plagued Tekashi 6ix9ine in recent years. Just months after the October assault, Tekashi faced domestic abuse charges in the Dominican Republic in January. 

This marked his first arrest on such charges, though the rapper had previously admitted to years of domestic violence between 2011 and 2018 as part of an agreement with the New York City government during a pre-trial hearing.

Tekashi’s legal troubles have not been limited to the Dominican Republic. In August 2023, he was booked into a Palm Beach County jail in Florida after failing to appear in court for driving with a suspended license. 

Although he was released from custody a few hours later, the incident added to a growing list of legal infractions. 

Earlier in March 2023, Tekashi made headlines when he was assaulted by a group of people at a gym in Florida.

The rapper, who gained notoriety for his colorful appearance and controversial behavior, initially rose to fame with hits like "GUMMO" and "FEFE." 

However, his career has been overshadowed by a series of legal battles, including a high-profile racketeering case in which he pleaded guilty to nine federal counts in exchange for a reduced sentence.

The latest arrest warrant in the Dominican Republic highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by Tekashi 6ix9ine. 

The rapper’s troubled past and continued run-ins with the law raise questions about his future in the music industry and his ability to stay out of legal trouble. 

As of now, it remains to be seen whether Tekashi will face extradition to the Dominican Republic to answer for the assault charges.
