Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman criticises government over 'Bangladesh-like conditions'

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that 'unlike Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, won't be granted an airlift in the face of turmoil.'

Naeem criticised the government, comparing the situation in Pakistan to that of Bangladesh. He stressed that while they do not wish for chaos, they will hold the government accountable on public issues.

Naeem further claimed that despite a recent agreement with the government, Jamaat-e-Islami continued to apply pressure, resulting in a reduction in electricity costs in one province.

He alleged that political families and international power producers (IPPs) have benefited at the expense of the public, and urged the government to end capacity payments to these entities to be taken seriously by global stakeholders.

Naeem also highlighted the billions lost in income tax exemptions by political elites, holding all major parties responsible for the country’s economic decline.
