After 20 years, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is still resonating with a new generation, including the teenage son of star John Cho. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Today, Cho shared that his 16-year-old son finally saw the stoner comedy that became a cult classic, and his reaction was surprisingly insightful. The milestone 20th anniversary of the film, which first hit theaters in 2004, has sparked renewed interest, and Cho’s son had a “pretty good takeaway” from the iconic movie.

As the anniversary approached, Cho and his co-star Kal Penn reflected on the legacy of their wacky adventure, where their characters embark on a chaotic late-night journey to satisfy their munchies with some White Castle burgers. The duo’s on-screen chemistry led to two sequels: Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008) and A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011).

In a related interview, Penn and producer Nathan Kahane reminisced about how Ryan Reynolds’ memorable cameo as a nurse helped get the film greenlit. Penn revealed that Reynolds had been incredibly supportive during the audition process for Van Wilder (2002), even helping him land the role of an Indian exchange student over another actor in brownface. Reynolds later told Penn that he would gladly take on a supporting role when Penn landed his first lead, leading to his hilarious appearance in Harold & Kumar.

With the 20th anniversary in full swing, fans might be excited to hear that talks are underway for a potential fourth installment. While nothing is confirmed, Cho expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting the franchise, saying, “I think it would be fun to do it… I’d love to see if we could.”
