In a shocking revelation, CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen confirmed that a terrorist plot aiming to kill tens of thousands at a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna was thwarted earlier this month, thanks to crucial intelligence provided by the CIA. Speaking at the Intelligence Summit near Washington D.C., Cohen disclosed that the Austrian authorities were tipped off by the CIA, which led to the arrests of several individuals connected to ISIS.

“They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people at this concert, I am sure many Americans,” Cohen said, as reported by The New York Times, NBC, and other major outlets. The terrifying plot was uncovered just in time to prevent what could have been a massive tragedy. Swift, who was scheduled to perform three shows at the Ernst Happel Stadium, was forced to cancel the concerts following the alarming news.

The pop icon expressed her devastation and gratitude in a social media post: “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

The planned attack, which targeted over 170,000 concertgoers, was linked to four suspects with ties to the Islamic State. At least three arrests have been made so far. While Cohen didn’t elaborate on how the CIA obtained the critical information, the swift action by authorities undoubtedly saved countless lives.
