LAHORE:

Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi of the Lahore High Court has sought replies from the relevant authorities on a petition challenging the government's decision to wind up the Utility Stores Corporation (USC).

The court, however, turned down the request to grant a "stay" over all proceedings and restrain concerned quarters from the smooth functioning of USC.

The petitioner, Muhammad Rafique, filed the plea through advocates Asif Shahzad Sahi and Adnan Kalar, arguing that the USC, a state-owned enterprise established in July 1971, plays a crucial role in providing subsidised goods to the public.
