Sindh governor hosts grand ceremony for Olympic gold medalist, Dr Rehan Chawla announces plot of land

KARACHI:

A grand ceremony was held at the Governor House in Sindh on Tuesday honour Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic gold medalist of 2024. During the event, Nadeem showcased his javelin throw skills on the Governor House lawn.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, on the occasion, announced a reward of Rs1 million for Pakistan’s Under-15 football team and Rs500,000 for the team’s coach, Rasheed Ahmed. Dr Rehan Chawla also pledged Rs100,000 and a motorcycle for each team member.

The ceremony, held at the Governor House in Sindh, was attended by Pakistan's Under-15 football team and consuls general from various countries. Organisers shared that the Norway Cup featured teams from 136 countries, with Pakistan's Under-15 team playing ten matches to reach the final.

Governor Tessori praised Arshad Nadeem's achievements and congratulated the Under-15 football team. “The Governor House will always remain open to athletes who bring pride to Pakistan,” he said.

Dr Rehan Chawla announced a plot of land for Arshad Nadeem, while Governor Tessori expressed his commitment to include sports in the Governor House Initiative. He also revealed plans to organise the Karachi Marathon in January, inviting everyone to participate.

Arshad Nadeem, 27, who won Pakistan's first Olympic gold medal in 40 years, was honoured for the second consecutive day upon his return to Karachi.

At a ceremony hosted by a car manufacturer, Nadeem received a luxury car as a gift, with the keys presented by CEO Ali Asghar Jamali. Nadeem was also given a commemorative shield.
