Karachi to get more rain today, Sindh government prepares for emergencies

Karachi is bracing for another day of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds as the monsoon system continues to impact the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more downpours for the port-city today, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 25.5°C to a maximum of 33°C.

During the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall recorded was 52 mm in Quaidabad, followed by 46 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 30 mm in North Karachi, 26 mm in Nazimabad, and 25 mm in Surjani.

Other areas, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Keamari, and University Road, experienced significant rainfall, leading to water accumulation on roads and transportation challenges.

The heavy rains have also caused power outages, plunging various parts of the city into darkness.

In response to the ongoing weather conditions, the Sindh government has taken precautionary measures to manage potential rain emergencies.

Provincial Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon announced today that a rain emergency cell has been established at the Chief Minister’s House to monitor the situation.

Additionally, the government has deployed necessary machinery to ensure timely drainage of water from low-lying areas, aiming to mitigate flooding and minimise public disruption.
