Fox's new detective drama, "Murder in a Small Town," carries a special dedication to the late acting legend, Donald Sutherland.
This tribute goes beyond the simple fact that his son, Rossif Sutherland, stars in the series. It signifies a fulfilling of Donald's 30-year dream to see L.R. Wright's Karl Alberg novels adapted for the screen.
Rossif discovered his father's connection to the story after he was cast as Detective Karl Alberg. Donald had been championing the books' adaptation since the early 90s, working with writer Ian Weir on a film script that never materialized.
The series, produced by Jeff Wachtel's Future Shack, brings Wright's classic whodunnits to life, set in the charming village of Sechelt. While Donald's health prevented him from participating, the role of prime suspect George went to James Cromwell, with a talented cast including Kristin Kreuk, Stana Katic, and more.
Rossif, in his first interview since his father's passing, acknowledged the serendipity surrounding the project. He expressed regret that Donald couldn't see the series, but found solace in the dedication honoring his father's legacy and passion.
"Murder in a Small Town" premieres on Fox on September 24th, serving as a touching tribute to Donald Sutherland's enduring love for storytelling.
