The anti-corruption department has registered a case against five officers of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), including a director and a deputy director, on charges of causing loss to the public exchequer of Rs70 million by constructing a road without no-objection certificates (NOC) during the excavation of the Niamuana Road.

According to sources, the two officers did not appear for the inquiry despite repeated summons, while the role of the remaining three WASA officials will be determined in the investigation.

The report filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamshed Shaukat, posted in Region Anti-Corruption Police Station, stated that it had ben alleged that WASA Director Ijaz Latif and Deputy Director Ghulam Shabbir, in collaboration with other officers, had to build the Niamuana Road from the Fish Farm.

It was alleged that the officials excavated the road without obtaining NOC from various departments and colluded with the contractors, causing a loss of Rs70 million to the public exchequer.

The WASA officers allegedly did not mention the details in the road scheme.

The roles in the matter of WASA officials Hafiz Owais and Abdul Rahman will be determined during the investigation.

The anti-corruption department registered the case under sections 409/5/2/47 and started a search for the nominated officers.

According to the sources, the officers named in the case are serving o their posts.
