Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff will not be part of the England coaching staff for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to give stand-in white-ball coach Marcus Trescothick full control of the team for this series.

Flintoff has been involved with England's white-ball team since last year, serving as an assistant coach during the T20 World Cup 2024, which was held in the USA and the Caribbean. Despite his efforts, England had a disappointing campaign, losing to India in the semi-final and struggling in the league stage with losses to Australia and a close call against Scotland.

For the upcoming three-match T20I series and the five-match ODI series against Australia, Flintoff will step aside. Flintoff's role with the England team has been on a short-term basis, and he hasn't held a full-time contract.

Earlier this year, he took on his first head coaching role with the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024, leading the team to a decent season with five wins and two losses, though they narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

It was reported that Flintoff didn't have the best working relationship with England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, during the T20 World Cup. However, over the past year, Flintoff has been dedicated to his coaching journey, starting with scouting work for England and later working with age-group teams before becoming a consultant for the national white-ball team. Flintoff, who isn't being considered for the permanent white-ball head coach position, recently expressed his deep love for cricket and his gratitude for being involved in the game as a coach.
