ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging a recent amendment in the Election Act.

The petition, filed by the six members of the PBC, named the Election Commission of Pakistan, Ministry of Law and the federal government as respondents.

The petition requested the court to nullify the recent amendment in the Election Act and bar the federal government and ECP from implementing the tweak.

It submitted that the amendment was in contravention of various articles of the Constitution, adding the legislative change is an attempt to thwart the apex court verdict dated July 12.
