Street Children: NGO starts literacy programme

“Chalo Parho Barho” is a citizen-driven campaign in which children’s reading and learning levels are assessed

KARACHI: “I want to read, learn and grow into a good citizen. This is my fundamental right,” were the chants of the street children at a rally organised in the community of Ali Akbar Shah Goth, Korangi No. 5 on the launch of the Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi’s “Chalo Parho Barho campaign.” The “Chalo Parho Barho” is a citizen-driven campaign in which children’s reading and learning levels are assessed and improved, said a press release on Friday. The ultimate drive of ITA is to improve the learning levels of 150,000 children per district across public-private schools in Pakistan and carry it till 2015. A drop-in centre was also opened for the street children of the community. It is an educational set-up where out-of-school children or displaced children can receive primary education or vocational training free of charge. press release
