Three killed in Peshawar, four in other districts

Flash floods, caused by torrential rains over the past 24 hours, have wreaked havoc on the city of Peshawar, and other parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, leaving seven people dead and dozens more wounded in their wake, the PDMA reported.

The rain also brought death and destruction to other parts of the province as four people were killed by the downpours which lashed the DI Khan and Bannu districts.

The deceased in Peshawar included two women, a child, while the injured were a man, two women and three children, the report indicated.

Gusty winds also damaged ten homes with Tank, Bannu, Mansehra, and Mohmand districts being the most affected areas.

The PDMA also monitored rivers and nullah for any flashfloods in the province, while imposing a state of emergency in Chitral district until August 30 in fear of glacial outbursts and flash floods, the PDMA report added.

Moreover, the authority has also dispatched food item and other essentials to the affected districts where heavy machinery is being used to reopen blocked roads and highways.

The PDMA also warned tourists and the public to avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency numbers at which any untoward incident can be reported have been circulated.

Death in Bannu, DI Khan

A mother, her son, and two women were killed in the DI Khan and Bannu districts of the province. Additionally, 12 people were injured in these areas.

According to reports, a roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the village of Tahir Khaili, located in the Parwa tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan.

The collapse claimed the lives of a mother and her son who were sleeping in a room when the incident occurred. In Bannu district, heavy rain accompanied by lightning caused the roof of a house to collapse in a village of Musa Khel, leading to the deaths of two women of the same family. Nine others were injured in this incident.

In another incident, two people were buried under debris after the roof of a house collapsed in the Kot Jai area of Paharpur tehsil in Dera Ismail Khan.

Local residents helped rescue the two individuals from the rubble and transported them to the Dera Ismail Khan DHQ Hospital. Local sources reported that the house was in poor condition, and the walls collapsed due to a combination of the rain and the unstable structure.

Additionally, the heavy rain has caused the walls of many houses to collapse. Water has accumulated in several areas due to inadequate drainage, making it difficult for residents to navigate through various passageways.
