LAHORE:

The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from Thursday until Saturday

According to a home department notification issued on Wednesday, under the section, all public gatherings, including rallies, processions, sit-ins, and protests across the province have bene prohibited during this period. A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated that the measure had been taken in view of threats of terrorism and to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The spokesperson said that given the current security situation, any public assembly could potentially become a soft target for terrorist activities. Therefore, the restriction is being enforced as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and to protect citizens from potential harm. The notification emphasised that the implementation of Section 144 is crucial for public safety and it will be strictly enforced by the administration across all districts of Punjab.

The department urged the public to cooperate regarding the imposed restrictions and to avoid any activities that might contravene the orders during the period.
