Pakistan captain Shan Masood found himself embroiled in controversy on the first day of the Test match against Bangladesh after a contentious dismissal led to a heated exchange with the on-field umpire.

The incident unfolded when Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam delivered a back-of-a-length ball that sharply rose, catching Masood off guard.

Bangladesh's players, convinced that Shan had edged the ball to wicketkeeper Litton Das, immediately appealed.

Though the on-field umpire initially ruled Shan not out, Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto opted for a review.

The UltraEdge technology revealed a slight deflection, prompting the third umpire to overturn the decision.

Shan, visibly frustrated, engaged in a heated discussion with umpire Richard Kettleborough, insisting that the ball had clipped his pad rather than the bat.

Despite his protests, the umpire upheld the decision, and Shan was instructed to leave the field, ending his innings at just 6 runs.

Upon returning to the pavilion, Shan expressed his belief to the team's analyst that the ball had indeed struck his pad, further fueling his frustration with the decision.

Pakistan's situation worsened when star batsman Babar Azam was dismissed for a duck shortly after Shan's exit, leaving the team in a precarious position.

Bangladesh's early breakthroughs, including the dismissals of both Shan and Babar, have tilted the momentum in their favour, with Pakistan struggling to recover.
