Hold onto your seats, Bollywood buffs—Bilal Lashari's 2022 cinematic juggernaut, The Legend of Maula Jatt, is reportedly poised to make a grand entrance into Indian theatres this September. After a fervent fanfare and a hefty dose of anticipation, India Today reported that the film is finally gearing up for its debut across the border.

Sources close to the action reveal that Zee Studios might be the one rolling out the red carpet for this blockbuster. Despite facing a bit of pushback from some far-right Indian factions and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), the film seems determined to break through the resistance and reach Indian audiences.

The Legend of Maula Jatt—a colossal hit in Pakistan, featuring a star-studded lineup including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Humaima Malick—had moviegoers in a frenzy. It's been a while since a Pakistani film graced Indian screens, with the last being Bol in 2011. But as they say, good things come to those who wait, and it looks like the wait is finally over.

The cult-classic thriller had already become the highest-grossing Punjabi film of all time at the global box office in the fourth week of its release. Previously, the film has managed to break other records and has already added many titles to its name including; highest grossing Pakistani film and the second-highest-grossing film in the UK for the year 2022 as well as the most-watched South Asian film in Norway.

The Legend of Maula Jatt was released in 25 different territories with 500+ screens - making it one of the biggest releases to come out of Pakistan. The phenomenal response to the film has led to full house screenings across the world and queues outside cinemas, with exhibitors continuously scheduling additional screenings to meet consumers' demands.

A reboot of Yunus Malik's 1979 cult classic Maula Jutt, the film is a re-telling of the story of the rivalry between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt. Directed by Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt also stars Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan and Saima Baloch.
