Pakistan cricketer Umar Amin remains optimistic about making a return to the national team, despite facing significant challenges and a lengthy absence from international cricket.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Umar expressed his unwavering determination to rejoin the national squad.

“If I didn’t believe in this, I wouldn’t even be playing domestic cricket right now. The goal has always been to make a comeback and play for Pakistan,” he said, highlighting his commitment to the sport despite the setbacks he has faced.

Umar, who last represented Pakistan in a Test match against England in August 2010, sees Fawad Alam as a role model for perseverance and dedication.

“I’ve played a lot of cricket with Fawad Bhai, and he’s an example in front of me because he made a comeback after a long time. He also had consistent performances. So, I am very hopeful based on my good performances. My focus is just to give the best performance I can, do what is within my control, and not think too much about what’s beyond my control,” Amin shared.

Despite his strong domestic performances, including a recent 177-run innings against Bangladesh A, Amin revealed that there has been no communication with the selectors regarding his future with the national team.

He emphasised that his motivation remains high, driven by the belief that his efforts will eventually be recognised.

Addressing speculation about a possible move to the United States for league cricket, Umar clarified that he has no plans to leave Pakistan’s domestic circuit.

“So far, there’s no such plan. If I had such a plan, I would have made that decision two or three years ago. Then I wouldn’t have played so much domestic and other formats of cricket. I’ve been playing every national tournament since I was dropped from the team; I haven’t missed a single domestic tournament by the PCB,” Umar stated, reaffirming his commitment to domestic cricket.

Looking ahead, Umar remains focused on seizing current opportunities rather than setting long-term goals.

“Moving forward, my goal is very simple. I want to focus on the cricket I am currently playing. I haven’t set any long-term or short-term goals at this time. My focus is on how I can grab the opportunity in front of me on the given day and time,” he concluded.
