Blake Lively once reacted sharply to a reporter who asked about her then-rumored relationship with her “Gossip Girl” co-star, Penn Badgley.
During a 2008 interview with New York magazine for a feature on the popular CW teen drama, Lively talked about her upcoming film “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,” where she filmed a kissing scene with Alan Arkin.
“He’s a little bit of an upgrade from Chace [Crawford] and Penn [Badgley],” the “A Simple Favor” actress remarked. “So I’m looking forward to that.”
This statement led journalists Jessica Pressler and Chris Rovzar to inquire about her off-screen relationship with Badgley, who portrayed her on-screen love interest, Dan Humphrey. Lively retorted, “I thought this was New York magazine. I thought you were supposed to be classy.”
Lively’s past interviews have resurfaced amid the controversy involving her and her “It Ends With Us” co-star Justin Baldoni. The drama allegedly centers on Lively, 36, using the film’s press tour to promote her new alcohol line and haircare brand instead of focusing on the film’s serious theme of domestic violence.
The “Jane the Virgin” actor, 40, has also faced criticism, with sources accusing him of “fat-shaming” Lively on set.
According to TMZ, Baldoni reportedly asked an on-set trainer about Lively’s weight before filming a scene where he needed to lift her, as he had previously injured his back and wanted to avoid further injury.
Lively, who had given birth to her fourth child with husband Ryan Reynolds just a few months before filming began last year, later learned about Baldoni’s alleged remark and felt “bothered” and body-shamed by it, according to sources cited by the outlet.
