A new era for Lorde's music seems imminent. Producer Jim-E Stack, known for collaborations with artists like Gracie Abrams, Bon Iver, Dominic Fike, Joji, and The Kid LAROI, recently posted an Instagram photo showing Lorde working in the studio on her laptop. This update follows Lorde's recent move to delete all her social media accounts, sparking speculation that a new album is on the way. Her bio now hints at themes for her upcoming work, stating: “THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL.”

For nearly a year, Lorde has been hinting at a follow-up to her 2021 album Solar Power. She has shared brief snippets of new music, including a short video of herself in the studio enjoying a techno beat, captioned, “will be back in touch.” In June, she posted several cryptic images with the message “use the existing tools wherever possible,” featuring symbols like a copyright sign, variations of the letter L, the number four in parentheses, and a recycling logo.
