Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has expressed confidence in his team's readiness for the upcoming first Test against Pakistan, which is set to begin on Wednesday at Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.
Speaking at a media briefing, Hathurusingha emphasized that his team is well-prepared to face any challenge Pakistan may present. "We are prepared for whatever challenge Pakistan throws at us," Hathurusingha said. "The Pindi pitch appears favorable for both fast bowling and batting. Considering Pakistan's selection, we have also developed a strong contingent of fast bowlers."
He also discussed the team's strategic decisions, highlighting the inclusion of all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who bring valuable spin options. "We expected Pakistan's wickets to be different from Bangladesh and selected spinners based on merit, not just conditions."
Hathurusingha expressed appreciation for the support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which facilitated excellent facilities for their preparations.
"We are pleased with our preparations and look forward to the challenge."
Touching on recent events in Bangladesh, Hathurusingha offered his condolences to those affected by the protests and expressed hope for a swift resolution.
Regarding his position as head coach, Hathurusingha reaffirmed his commitment to his current contract but expressed openness to any decisions the board might make regarding his role.
He acknowledged concerns about Bangladesh's batting performance but remained optimistic, noting the potential for better conditions in Pakistan. Hathurusingha praised Shakib's improved fitness and form, and also expressed confidence in the team's young fast bowlers.
Additionally, Hathurusingha welcomed Mushtaq Ahmed to the coaching staff, noting that his extensive global experience will be a valuable asset to the team.
Pak Shaheens, BD 'A' make major changes
The Pakistan Shaheens cricket team is set to face Bangladesh 'A' in their second four-day match at Islamabad Club on Tuesday, 20th August, following a draw in the first encounter.
Both squads have undergone significant reshuffles, with Shaheens introducing eight new players and Bangladesh 'A' making six changes post their Test squad's departure for national duty.
Kamran Ghulam, an uncapped top-order batsman released from the Pakistan Test squad, alongside Abrar Ahmed, will lead the Shaheens in this crucial fixture.
