Consider Aishwariya not as a daughter, but as a daughter-in-law: Jaya Bachchan

On Koffee with Karan, Jaya said daughters may take parents for granted, but in-laws need a respectful approach.

Veteran actress and Indian politician Jaya Bachchan has sparked fresh discussions on social media after an old interview resurfaced, where she candidly discussed her relationship with her daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

In the interview, Jaya revealed that while she is a strict mother to her children, Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan, she does not impose the same strictness on Aishwarya, whom she considers her daughter-in-law, not her daughter.

Jaya explained the difference in dynamics between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, highlighting that while daughters may take their parents for granted, the same approach does not apply in a marital home.

She emphasised that the right to be strict with Aishwarya lies with her mother, not her.

The interview has reignited public interest, particularly amidst ongoing rumours about tension in Abhishek and Aishwarya’s marriage.

Jaya’s comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some praising her honesty and others finding her perspective relatable.

In a previous interview on the show Koffee with Karan, Jaya also expressed that her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, views Aishwarya not as a daughter-in-law but as a daughter, filling a void left by their own daughter, Shweta, after her marriage.
