Four armed men kidnapped an 18-year-old girl from her home in Sarai Mughal on Friday, taking gold jewellery and cash with them.
Police said the girl's grandfather, Abdul Hamid, filed a complaint with the Sarai Mughal police station, stating that the men, identified as Junaid, Imtiaz and others, entered the house while the family was working in the fields and took the girl away along with the four tollas of gold jewellery and Rs500,000 in cash. The girl's father works abroad.
The police have registered a case and started an investigation. However, the family alleges that the police are not taking action and have not arrested the suspects despite repeated requests. They claim that the suspects have taken the girl for sexual assault.
The family has appealed to the DPO of Kasur and the IG of Punjab to take notice of the case and ensure the recovery of the girl and the arrest of the suspects.
The SHO has assured that the police will take action, but the family is dissatisfied with the progress of the investigation. The family has also demanded action against Liaquat Ali, the investigation officer of the case, for not taking any action.
Meanwhile, the police said a separate unit for cases pertaining to women is responsible for investigating the case. However, the current investigation officer is not complying.
Meanwhile, a lady doctor was attacked with a knife by two suspended Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) at the Basic Health Unit in Sheikhm, Sarai Mughal. The attackers, Kinza Salim and Gul Arzo, were suspended by the Health Department of Kasur.
Dr Nazia Riffat, who is the incharge of the health unit, submitted a complaint to the Sarai Mughal Police Station stating that the two suspended LHVs came to the health unit and started abusing her by alleging that she was responsible for their suspension. When she denied their claim, Kinza Salim pulled out a knife from her bag to attack her. As Dr Nazia tried to defend, her hand was injured.
