Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has welcomed the reduction in electricity prices in Punjab, calling it a positive development.

In a statement on social media platform X on Friday, Hafiz Naeem said, "Jamaat-e-Islami's resistance and struggle are bearing fruit. After Punjab, the federal and provincial governments must extend this relief across the entire country."

He demanded that the relief should not be temporary but permanent, urging other provincial governments and the federal authorities to make similar progress in reducing electricity prices.

His remarks followed an announcement by PML-N President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during a press conference with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. They announced a relief of Rs14 per unit for consumers using up to 500 units of electricity in Punjab.

Nawaz Sharif acknowledged the public’s suffering from inflation and high electricity bills, attributing the responsibility to the Imran Khan government. "The faces who brought back the IMF are not us but those sitting in jail," he added.
