Marvel Studios has responded to claims made by Beau DeMayo, the creator of "X-Men '97," regarding the removal of his credit for the show's second season. DeMayo, who was fired from Marvel in March 2024, alleged on social media that he was stripped of his season two credit due to a social media post. He described this as part of a "troubling pattern" he experienced while working at Marvel.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel disputed DeMayo's account, stating that his termination and subsequent loss of credit were due to findings from an internal investigation. "Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation," a Marvel spokesperson said. "Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."

DeMayo had shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Marvel had notified him of the credit removal after he posted fan art of himself as the superhero Cyclops for Gay Pride in June. "On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post," DeMayo wrote.

Sources close to the situation suggest that DeMayo's behavior, including continued tweeting about the show after his exit, led to the removal of his credit. Additionally, the internal investigation reportedly involved allegations of sexual misconduct, though specific details have not been disclosed.

DeMayo, who worked on Marvel projects such as "Blade" and "Moon Knight," expressed disappointment with the situation but hinted at revealing more in the future. In a follow-up post, he wrote, "The truth will be revealed. After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It’s tragic it’s come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned."
