DERA GHAZI KHAN:

The Punjab Police thwarted an attack in Dera Ghazi Khan by about 60 terrorists on a joint border security post with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at Lakhani late on Wednesday night.

According to local sources, the attackers fled after facing retaliation.

They said around 60 terrorists suddenly attacked the checkpoint late at night from all directions. The checkpoint of Border Military Police and Punjab Police is located at Lakhani in the jurisdiction of Dera Ghazi Khan's Wahwa police station.

Using thermal imaging cameras to identify the terrorists, the police responded with machine guns and mortar fire. The firing forced the terrorists to retreat and flee.

The operation was commanded by DG Khan RPO Sajjad Hasan Khan. Elite Force and QRU backup teams arrived immediately at the scene.

Upon receiving information about the attack, the SDPO of Taunsa also reached the provincial border checkpoint with all SHOs and other personnel.

Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar announced gallantry medals, commendation certificates, and cash rewards for all personnel deployed at the checkpoint.

RPO Sajjad Hassan said the attackers had suffered significant casualties and a search operation was ongoing in the area.

Following three attacks on the Jhangi checkpoint, the Punjab government has provided the security posts on the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border the latest weaponry.

Emergency response drills, search operations and mock exercises were also conducted along with the CTD, Rangers and other security agencies at the border posts.

The police are on high alert round the clock along the border.

The IG asserted that terrorists would not be allowed to enter the province under any circumstances.
