Michael Rubin admits he banned Kendrick Lamar's diss track at 4th of July party for Drake

"I just didn't think it was appropriate... That was a me decision," Rubin explained.

Michael Rubin, the founder of Fanatics, has revealed that he personally requested Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us" not be played during his star-studded Fourth of July party out of respect for his close friend, Drake. 

The revelation came during Rubin's recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, where he opened up about his decision to keep the party’s playlist free from any music that could stir up tensions.

Rubin explained that with Drake in attendance, he felt it was important to avoid playing any tracks that could potentially make the rapper uncomfortable. 

"I just didn't think it was appropriate," Rubin admitted. 

"I said, 'Hey, let's not play anyone's music that's feuding with anyone here.' That was a me decision. I just thought it wasn't the right thing to do."

The conversation then shifted to the broader context of Drake's ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar, which has generated significant buzz in the music world. 

Rubin acknowledged the challenges that come with being in the public eye and how artists like Drake must navigate criticism and competition. 

"You have to be built for social media, you got to be tough, you have to take sh*t from people," Rubin said, noting that the intense scrutiny is part and parcel of success.

Rubin went on to praise Drake's resilience, expressing confidence that the rapper will continue to produce "incredible music" despite the challenges. 

"This is a great test for him," Rubin said. "You can't get to where he's got to and not have people coming for you. With success comes more competition, more hatred, and the best people show why they're the best."
