HYDERABAD:

The employees of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation have suspended water supply to the Kohsar Latifabad area due to non-payment of salaries. Residents of Citizens Colony, Qasimabad, have also reported water shortage for several days which has forced them to buy water from tanker mafias.

According to details, the serving and retired employees of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation have not received their salaries and pensions yet. The employees' labour action committee had announced to shut down the Main Jamshoro Filtration Plant, which was closed during the protest. However, despite the assurance of chairman of corporation and Mayor Hyderabad Kashif Shoro of paying salaries of three months, the employees have not received their dues, leading to widespread resentment and anger among them.

The daily-wage employees working at the Habib farm pumping station near Latifabad Airport Road, have suspended work and stopped water supply in protest. The suspension of water supply has led to acute shortage of water in areas including Kohsar Phase 1, Phase 2, Khari Patty, General Public, and Judicial Colony, among others.

Taking advantage of the situation, tanker mafias have started supplying water to affected residents at exorbitant rates.
