JARANWALA:

The divisional administration has launched a plantation drive involving millions of saplings on over 10 acres of agricultural land in Chak 534GB of Jaranwala tehsil.

According to officials, thousands of students from local schools and colleges participated in the campaign.

On the occasion, Commissioner Silwat Saeed highlighted the need to meet the targets of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She stressed the need to plant local species best suited to the region's air and soil conditions to ensure the healthy growth of the saplings.

An official said 27 acres of land had been reclaimed from illegal occupants who had been cultivating it for over 30 years.

An initiative by the district administration led to the forest department's involvement in transforming the land into a green space.

The commissioner also inaugurated the restoration and upgradation of the district council building.
