Cristiano Ronaldo leads Al-Nassr to Super Cup final
Cristiano Ronaldo made a triumphant return to action, scoring and assisting in Al-Nassr's 2-0 victory on Wednesday over Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium, setting the stage for a potential silverware win.
Following a disappointing end to his Euro 2024 campaign with Portugal, Ronaldo wasted no time in making an impact, assisting Ayman Yahya's goal in the eighth minute after Sadio Mane's strong run down the left flank. Al-Nassr secured their place in the final, where they will face Al-Hilal, Goal reported.
Ronaldo's contribution didn't stop with the assist; he added to the scoreline with his first goal of the 2024-25 season in the 57th minute. Yahya's efforts on the right wing led to a cross that found right-back Sultan Al-Ghannam, who then set up Ronaldo for a precise finish. The Portuguese star was close to scoring a second goal, but the woodwork denied him.
Ahead of the match, Ronaldo had shared a glimpse of his intense training on Instagram, captioning it "Ready to go!"
Despite some pressure from Al-Taawoun, Al-Nassr's Brazilian goalkeeper Bento made crucial saves in the first half to keep the lead intact. Before halftime, Ronaldo set up Mane for another chance, but Al-Taawoun's goalkeeper, Mailson Santos, made a vital stop. Ultimately, Al-Nassr's solid performance, led by Ronaldo, ensured their progression to the final, where they will compete for more silverware.
