Christine Baranski has hinted that a third installment of the Mamma Mia! franchise is in development. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on August 13, the 72-year-old actress revealed that she met with producer Judy Craymer, who shared a narrative plotline for the potential sequel. Baranski, known for her role as Tanya in the series, said, “She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen. That’s all I can say!”

Baranski praised Craymer’s determination, noting that the producer was instrumental in making the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again a success. She remarked, “She is planning Mamma Mia 3. She’s the kind of creative who makes things happen.” Baranski expressed optimism about reuniting with the cast, adding, “We’ll all be on some fabulous Greek or Croatian island having a blast. I hope.”

The Mamma Mia! franchise, which first debuted in 2008, has been celebrated for its joyful, campy charm. Baranski reflected on its cultural impact, stating, “Mamma Mia! [has] made so many millions of people around the world happy.” She also shared her surprise at how many young fans adore her character, Tanya, saying with a laugh, “It troubles me a little, that Tanya’s their favorite character.”

Craymer previously mentioned in an interview with Vogue that another sequel is possible, despite concerns about the cast’s age. Meryl Streep, who played Donna, expressed interest in returning if a compelling script emerges, jokingly suggesting the film could be titled Grand-Mamma Mia!.
