KARACHI:

A chilling attempt to abduct renowned actress Nimra Khan was reported in the upscale DHA area of the city, prompting South zone DIG Syed Asad Raza to take swift action.

He immediately sought a detailed report from the South district police chief regarding the incident.

Actress Nimra Khan's harrowing experience was revealed in a video statement that quickly went viral on social media. In the video, she recounted "I was waiting for my car outside a restaurant in DHA Phase-VIII."

She said that her family was stuck in the traffic due to the rain, and she was waiting for them, with her cell phone in hand and bag slung over her shoulder.

Suddenly, three men came close to her, Nimra said, adding" One of the men grabbed my hand and the other put a pistol to my waist and tried to kidnap me."

They attempted to forcefully drag her into their vehicle at gunpoint. Nimra, however, resisted the attackers and started running towards the pavement.

The actress said that she cried for help but no one heard her in the traffic, even the four security guards were sitting outside the restaurant did not respond to her hue and cry.

"I knew I had to act fast. I pushed a bike and made a run for it," she said. Having thrown the suspects off balance, Nimra said, "fearing they will shoot me from behind. I ran towards a moving car and stood in front of it. The family inside, realising that I was in distress opened the door and saved me." At the same time, Nimra said, the entire team of the restaurant rushed out to her rescue.

The suspects, seeing the rush must have slipped away.

Following the video's circulation on social media, South zone DIG Syed Asad Raza promptly took notice and sought details from South district SSP.

Subsequently, South district police chief SSP Sajid Sadozai formed a committee, headed by SDPO DSP Manisha Ropeta, to investigate the matter. DSP Manisha Ropeta confirmed that Nimra Khan has since contacted the police and recorded her statement. The investigation is ongoing.
