'Necrophile' remanded in police custody

KARACHI:

A judicial magistrate on Monday handed over the accused necrophile to police on physical remand.

The suspect, Salim, had dug up a grave to rape the body of a woman in the Masoom Shah Graveyard in Korangi on Friday. He was caught in the act by the people and handed over to the police after a sound thrashing.

The desecrated body was exhumed on Saturday and Police Surgeon Sumaiya Syed Tariq conducted the autopsy and secured the DNA samples after which the body was properly buried again. On Monday, the Awami Colony police station investigation officer presented the suspect before the judicial magistrate to seek his physical remand.

The IO said that scope of investigation will be widened against the accused, Salim, who has a previous criminal record. The court handed over the accused to the police till Thursday on the request of IO. During the time cops have the liberty to try their traditional methods in the dreaded remand room of the police station.
