Rebel Wilson faces allegations of lying about being abused by Sacha Baron Cohen

Producers claim Rebel Wilson faked allegations to mask her professional failings, according to an amended lawsuit.

Producers of Rebel Wilson’s upcoming film, The Deb, have escalated their legal battle against the actress by filing an amended discrimination lawsuit that includes defamation claims. 

According to Variety, the lawsuit, originally filed by producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden, now accuses Wilson of making false accusations in an effort to distract from her own alleged professional shortcomings.

The defamation claims stem from a July 10 Instagram video in which Wilson accused the producers of engaging in “inappropriate behavior toward the lead actress of the film,” “embezzling funds from the film’s budget,” and sabotaging the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Wilson asserted that her actions to report the behavior led to retaliation from the producers.

In the amended complaint, Ghost, Cameron, and Holden contend that Wilson was absent from the film's set for months and invented the allegations due to a dispute over writing credits. 

The complaint states, “Because Rebel shirked her professional obligations to the Plaintiffs, the Film, and everyone dedicated to its success, she started flailing and inventing problems to obfuscate her own failures.”

The lawsuit also challenges Wilson’s past allegations of sexual harassment against Sacha Baron Cohen, which she detailed in her autobiography, Rebel Rising. 

The producers label these claims as “false” and assert that Wilson “has a history of fabricating false and malicious lies to hide her own lack of professionalism and advance her own self-interest.”

The plaintiffs seek to hold Wilson accountable for what they describe as an attempt to “bully Plaintiffs into conceding to her unreasonable demands by spreading vicious lies.” The actress has not yet responded to the amended complaint.
