Tracking the Paris Olympics 2024 Medal Count from start to finish

France has maintained a strong presence in the top 5 nations throughout the Paris Olympic Games.  The host nation even briefly held the top spot after Léon Marchand's victory in the 200-meter breaststroke. However, China quickly regained the lead with Pan Zhanle's gold medal in the 100m freestyle.   

The official Olympic ranking considers only gold medals, with silver and bronze used as tie-breakers.  France's goal is to finish in the top 5, a target set by the National Sports Agency, which predicts that at least 16 gold medals are needed to achieve this.   

With several events still to be decided, France's athletes are focused on securing more gold medals to solidify their position among the top nations in the medal tally.
