Tom Cruise made a dramatic entrance at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday night, abseiling from the Stade de France roof.

The audience erupted with excitement as the "Mission: Impossible" star, clad in a leather jacket and gloves, descended into the stadium while H.E.R. played guitar.

In a pre-recorded segment, Cruise was shown traveling from Paris to the US, where he visited the iconic Hollywood sign and displayed the Olympic colors, marking the official handover to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games.

Upon landing in the stadium after rappelling about 50 meters (164 feet), Cruise was greeted by a cheering crowd of athletes.

The stunt was performed while musician H.E.R. played an electric guitar, having earlier delivered a powerful rendition of the US national anthem.

The pre-recorded footage of Cruise's journey to LA was set to music by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who later performed their hit song "Can't Stop" on a beach in Los Angeles. Other performers included Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.

Known for performing his own stunts, Cruise has previously scaled the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and clung to the outside of a plane for the "Mission: Impossible" films.

Artistic director Thomas Jolly added to the spectacle with a cinematic segment, featuring dancers rolling five giant rings across the stage to form the Olympic logo.
