President, PM express grief over martyrdom of Lt Uzair Malik

Lt Uzair Mehmood Malik embraced Shahadat while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Peshawar, to the critical injuries he sustained in exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists in the Khyber district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the military said on Sunday.

The ISPR, the media wing of the military, said in a statement.

Lt Uzair Malik Shaheed, 24, from the Attock district, got critically injured in an exchange of fire in Bagh in Tirah Valley on Friday. He was under treatment at the CMH Peshawar and succumbed to injuries and embraced Shahadat on Sunday.

According to a Radio Pakistan report, funeral prayers for Lt Uzair Mehmood Malik Shaheed were offered in Peshawar, attended by the Peshawar Corps Commander, family members of the martyred, and civil and military officials. He would be laid to rest at his native town in Attack district with full military honours, the report added.

President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over the martyrdom of Lt Uzair Malik. In their separate condolence messages, they prayed for higher status in Heaven for the departed soul of the Shaheed.

The president and the prime minister also commiserated with the bereaved family and paid tributes to Lt Uzair Shaheed for presenting supreme sacrifice in the defence of the motherland.
