KARACHI:

Honour killing incidents continue unchecked as perpetrators in most cases go scot-free due to several reasons, including lax implementation of relevant laws.

In the latest incident, a man shot dead his sister-in-law and her tenant in Baldia Town, suspecting that they had a love affair outside marriage.

Rao Shabbir, SHO Etihad Town police station, identified the victims as 32-year-old Sonia, wife of Tanveer, and 38-year-old Muhammad Irshad, son of Lal Dad Shah. The double murder took place near Baldia Jungle School, Rana Ground.

As per preliminary investigation, it was an honour-related crime. Mustafa, husband of Sonia's sister, is suspected to have carried out the double murder. Sonia's husband is currently abroad for work. Irshad, the deceased, was Sonia's tenant, and it is believed that there was an illicit relationship between him and Sonia.

The accused reportedly used a 30 bore pistol to shoot both victims before fleeing the scene. Police have launched a manhunt for Mustafa, who is originally from the Hazara district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
