Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a sit-in protest outside the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Sunday against a steep increase in electricity bills.
The decision was revealed by JI Lahore Amir Advocate Ziauddin Ansari during a press conference on Saturday.
Advocate Ansari stated that the protest is being organised on the directive of JI's central leader, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.
He called on the provincial administration to support the peaceful demonstration rather than hindering it.
"Peaceful protest is a democratic right guaranteed to every citizen of Pakistan under the constitution," Ansari emphasised.
He urged the provincial government and the Punjab Police to ensure the safety of the protesters and to implement an alternate traffic plan to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
Ansari confirmed that JI has formally communicated its plans to the administration and stressed that the protest will proceed as planned.
"We will continue to hold the authorities accountable until relief is provided to the public," he asserted.
Criticising the government for failing to address the rising electricity tariffs, Ansari declared that JI will not tolerate any further deception or broken promises.
