KARACHI:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a plea before the Accountability Court seeking to withdraw a reference against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi about the alleged illegal appointment of PSO managing director.

Abbasi did not attend the hearing at the Accountability Court Karachi due to his ill-health.

However, Deputy Prosecutor General Khwaja Navaid and others appeared before the court.

The NAB officials requested the court to withdraw the reference. The prosecutor adopted the stance that the NAB chairman had issued directions for case withdrawal.

Khwaja Navaid Advocate said they had no objection on the NAB chairman's request, adding the case should be dismissed.

The judge remarked a plea from NAB to revive the case is already under trial.

The judge added that she would first listen to the deputy prosecutor general and then decide the request.

The court adjourned the hearing by August 12.
