Olympian Nyjah Huston criticises Paris 2024 medals for visible quality deterioration

US skateboarder, Nyjah Huston is not happy with the quality of his bronze medal he won in Paris Olympic 2024.

US skateboarder Nyjah Huston has raised concerns about the quality of the Paris 2024 Olympic medals after his bronze medal began to chip and lose its colour just a week after he won it in the men's street skateboarding final on July 29.

"These Olympic medals look great when they are brand new, but after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat and letting friends wear it over the weekend, they are apparently not as high quality as you would think," Huston shared with his Instagram followers.

Huston pointed out further flaws, saying, "Even the front is starting to chip off a little. Olympic medals - maybe got to step up the quality a little bit."

The medals, designed by Parisian jewellers Chaumet, feature a hexagonal token made from iron sourced from the Eiffel Tower, surrounded by grooves symbolising rays of light. The reverse side displays the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, flanked by the Acropolis and the Eiffel Tower.

The bronze medal, weighing 525 grams, is composed of a copper, tin, and zinc alloy. However, Huston suggested the medals might be more suited for display rather than regular wear. "I guess the medals are meant to be in cases," he remarked.

Each medal is accompanied by a dark-blue box from Chaumet and a certificate from the Eiffel Tower Operating Co. attesting to the iron's origin.

Netizens, expressed their mixed reaction over the ladbible’s Instagram account. one person advised him to use Wd40 or neutral polish will solve the problem.

“Copper oxidation is normal, win gold next time,” said another person.
