Since making its Olympic debut at the London Games in 1948, Pakistan has secured a total of 11 medals over 76 years—a modest tally for a nation with such a long sporting history.
Despite the tireless efforts of Pakistani athletes, the country has only managed to win 4 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals in its Olympic journey.
The last time Pakistan struck gold was 40 years ago, during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, when the men’s field hockey team clinched the top prize.
Fast forward to the Paris Olympics in 2024, javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem broke the drought by winning a historic gold medal—Pakistan’s first Olympic medal in 32 years since the bronze in field hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Arshad Nadeem’s gold is particularly significant as it marks Pakistan’s first-ever individual Olympic gold. Until now, all of Pakistan’s gold medals had been won by the national hockey team.
This achievement not only ends a long wait for Olympic glory but also highlights the potential for Pakistani athletes in disciplines beyond field hockey.
As Pakistan celebrates Arshad Nadeem’s incredible feat, the nation looks ahead with renewed hope for future Olympic successes.
