Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has stressed that the government is committed to transforming Pakistan into a cashless economy.
"The government aims to reduce reliance on physical currency and promote digital transactions through initiatives like the State Bank of Pakistan's (SBP) RAAST instant payment system," she said.
Speaking at a meeting of a high-level committee on the promotion of cashless economy, the IT minister said that digital payments had a critical role in driving economic growth and efficiency.
She underlined that steps were needed to accelerate digital financial inclusion and boost economic growth.
She also emphasised the importance of data integration and effective change management. "While there is significant progress on digitalisation across government agencies, we need to break down silos and create a unified data platform. This will enable better decision-making and improved service delivery."
