DI Khan braces for more militant attacks
After an attack on a judge’s convoy killed two policemen in DI Khan’s Tank district, security agencies filed reports with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Home Department which warned that the more such incidents could occur over the next few months.
The reports were compiled and to the home department in Peshawar. Security officials shared their heightened concern, and warned that the government employees, NGO officials and judges were in danger of being abducted, while police personnel and security forces could be attacked.
The home department has a issued warning, and the necessary information was shared with district governments, commissioners and DIGs of relevant areas.
The reports showed that officials could be kidnapped and held for ransom, or be used as hostages to exchange for detained militants. The government vehicles’ drivers been warned of such attacks, and been ordered to keep changing their timings, vehicles numbers and direction regularly.
They were also told to keep the local authorities up to speed on directional changes, and travel itineraries.
The reports also that banks and other financial institutions were vulnerable to attacks.
