Govt, opp senators nominated for PAC

Committee to have three senators from PTI, two from PPP and one from PML-N

ISLAMABAD:

The political parties in parliament have reached an agreement regarding the representation of their senators in the parliament's accountability wing, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

According to the agreement, three senators from the opposition and three senators from the government coalition will be appointed to the committee. Among the six Senate members in PAC, three will be from the PTI, two from the PPP, and one from the PML-N.

The PTI senators to sit on the committee are Shibli Faraz, Aon Abbas Buppi, and Mohsin Aziz. From the government, PPP Senators Saleem Mandviwalla and Sherry Rehman, and PML-N's Afnanullah Khan will be members of the PAC.

After reaching an agreement between the government and the opposition, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will present these six names for approval in the Senate session today (Monday).

According to sources, once the Senate session approves, efforts to activate the PAC will be expedited. The political parties in parliament earlier reached a similar agreement regarding their representatives in the committee from the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament.

The PAC plays a crucial role in ensuring accountability and transparency in government operations. It is responsible for examining the accounts showing the appropriation of funds granted by the parliament for the expenditure of the government.

The committee also scrutinizes the reports of the Auditor General of Pakistan and ensures that public funds are used efficiently and for the intended purposes.
