RAWALPINDI:

The prices of milk and yogurt have seen a significant hike in Rawalpindi.

Milk now costs 220 rupees per liter, up from the previous price of 190 rupees, while the price of yogurt has risen to 240 rupees per kilogram, compared to the earlier rate of 200 rupees.

The Dairy Farmers' Union attributes the price surge to a rise in the costs of buffaloes, fodder, and feed, along with additional taxes.

They have indicated that maintaining the government's official prices for these products has become untenable.

Despite the official rates being set at 190 rupees per liter for milk and 200 rupees per kilogram for yogurt, there is currently no pure milk available across the district.

Last month, dairy farmers and wholesalers have persuaded the Karachi commissioner to approve a price increase for milk.

The Karachi commissioner after consultation meeting with representatives of dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, increased tehe price, bringing it to Rs. 220 per litre for retailers.
