Ally Brooke's experience on Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets has taken a dramatic turn. In a recent episode, the Fifth Harmony alum suffered a panic attack while listening to her fellow houseguests open up about their personal struggles.
As Brooke listened to her fellow celebrities share their stories, she began to feel overwhelmed and anxious. "Chet [Hanks] is talking about his experience, and all of a sudden I'm feeling really anxious and overwhelmed," Brooke narrates.
The singer's anxiety quickly turned into a full-blown panic attack, causing her to become hyperventilated and tearful. She was comforted by fellow houseguest Tyler Posey, who helped her calm down by taking her on a walk and practicing mindfulness.
In a confessional, Brooke revealed that she was feeling anxious because she felt like she had to be "on" all the time. "I think it's hard not to feel like I have to be 'on,'" she said. "I had to mask my emotions, and it was just so much pressure sometimes it was just unbearable."
Brooke has been open about her struggles with mental health in the past, and her experience on Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets has been a chance for her to open up even further. "I think I began the show a bit more guarded, kind of getting to know people, getting to know the environment, just checking my surroundings and inch by inch opening up," she said.
The show has also sparked a conversation about mental health, with MTV launching the A.S.K. - Acknowledge, Support, Keep-In-Touch - campaign to help young people support each other emotionally.
