TLP leaders booked under anti-terror law

The accused raised provocative slogans against the chief justice, FIR states

The police booked more than two-dozen leaders and activists of the TLP under the provisions of Anti-Terrorism Act and other laws on Thursday after their protest against Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa on the High Court Road.

The FIR, number 1170/24, was lodged by the Airport police station against 28 accused on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ejaz Hussain Ghaman, under Section 7 ATA along with six other provisions.

Those nominated in the FIR included Syed Inayatul Haq, Mufti Umair, Dr Shafiq Amini, Allama Shafiq Qadri. It was learnt that the police had formed teams for the arrest of the nominated accused. Officials expressed the hope that the accused would be arrested soon.

According to the FIR, the police received a tip-off that the accused were holding a meeting at the Jama Ziaul Uloom to chalk out plans for a national level rally against the Chief Justice. The accused made speeches, seeking his dismissal and putting his name in the Exit Control List (ECL).

It added that the accused came in the form of a procession along with armed gunmen and madrassa students and blocked the High Court Road. Panic spread among the common man because of the presence of gunmen on the road and the sloganeering.

The accused raised provocative slogans against the chief justice, the FIR stated, adding that when the police reached the spot, the protesters got into vehicles and fled towards the GT Road, while the students ran away towards the madrassa via linking streets.
